its also worth considering, in regards to pricing, that those who live in far away zones also pay less for their houses and the fact that public transport infrastructure services there area comes at a high cost (extended rail lines, busways etc., - bus stations can cost $10million a pop).

they save money on a nice house in the burbs (when they would normally only be able to afford an apartment if they lived in the city) and receive buses and trainlines to their area which arnt reflected in the house prices (the developers dont pay for the public transport infrastructure - and so dont pass the costs onto the house buyer) infact, we all pay for services out to suburban areas even if we live in the CBD.

this needs to be considered. although you argument is not about the price per se, rather the comments of the spokeman.

Transit Tussle and Another Awful Alliteration...

Naomi Bicheno of Websinthe’s girl fame wrote an opinion piece on the state of public transport in Brisbane. I decided to blog a reply, because I’m an opinionated bastard and need to keep my quota of scathing rebuttals up.
To start thin...

I don't struggle for a few dollars, I'm frugal and try not to spend a few dollars unnecessarily so actually I have quite a lot of it. I moved to the city 'cause I hated the service provided by translink and avoid it whenever I can.

However my article was to empathise with the poor, students and people struggling to make ends meet. I don't tell them to pray for more, I prefer taking practical actions rather than patronise someone for going through a tough time.

The point is, that unless you have a collections plate, it's getting harder to pay the MORE THAN A FEW dollars for public transport on a regular basis.

Besides, I thought you would have better things to do on my site, like back stabbing the leaders of your church some more.

You struggle for a few dollars? What you need to do is pray for more. Jesus will provide.

Hi Mike,

No I don't struggle for a few dollars, I'm a very frugal person who hates to spend money unnecessarily, and that has left me in a financial state where very little is a struggle for me to achieve financially. I was so dissatisfied with Translink's level of service that it was one of the major reasons I moved to the CBD so that I didn't have to spend more than a few dollars on translink tickets.

However I am able to empathise with those in society for whom a few extra dollars is a struggle - the poor, students and the average "aussie battler" family as Kevin Rudd would put it (having been there myself once). I don't patronise them by just telling them to pray harder, I try to empower them with helpful solutions where appropriate and I take actions in my personal life to support them in their battle (such as writing articles, letters, lobbying etc).

As St Francis of Assisi said "Preach the gospel always, and when necessary, use words".

The point is, as you would know had you READ the article, that unless you have a collection plate, the cost of public transport in Brisbane is becoming increasingly onorous. A few extra dollars a day can make a huge difference, just ask world vision.

*Snip* wrong anglican.

No I wonder if I failed to take a joke. Assuming your comment was tongue in cheek, welcome to my blog. It's good to have you around.
